10 Saddest Horror Movie Moments
2. The Baby - Mother!
Oh boy this film was like Watership Down nightmare fuel on acid. Not only is this film intensely uncomfortable, a searing look at the treatment of both women and our planet and easily the most difficult film I’ve ever had to watch, but it is so, so sad to watch Jennifer Lawrence’s character get put through hell again and again. Quite literally.
The climax of the film is nauseating to say the least, with crowds and scenes swirling into one another in one long sick dance. A dance that involves the death of a new-born baby. As is often the case in horror, innocents are caught up in evil, and since this baby was no Damien Thorn, it is shocking, sudden and deeply, deeply sad.
You feel sorry for the unnamed woman caught in this anxiety attack of a film, and yet you feel both your heart and her heart shatter when you helplessly watch the events unfold. This is absolutely one of those films that you can appreciate, but you certainly don’t enjoy.
