10 Scandals That Cursed The Cast Of Harry Potter
9. Harry Potter And The Disappearance Of Vincent Crabbe
As Ron famously told Harry in the Philosopher’s Stone, “there wasn’t a witch or wizard who went bad, who wasn’t in Slytherin.”
In one of the more well-known Hogwarts scandals, actor Jamie Waylett was left out of The Half-Blood Prince when he was arrested in central London in 2009 after police uncovered cannabis plants of around £2000 in his home, with an additional eight bags seized from his car.
Malfoy's right-hand man pleaded guilty to growing 10 cannabis plants and production of the class B drug and was court ordered to undertake 120 hours of unpaid community work as punishment.
Any chance Waylett had of returning to the franchise for the finale in which Crabbe burns alive in the Room of Requirement was shattered when he was arrested again for violent disorder in the 2011 London Riots.
Waylett was pictured holding a petrol bomb whilst drinking from a stolen bottle of champagne. His lawyer argued that he struggled with fame and that his role in Harry Potter was a curse in disguise, as it led him to becoming withered by the age of 22. Ultimately, he received a two-year sentence for violent disorder and 12 months for handling stolen goods.
Commenting on the situation, former co-star Tom Felton said that "he was always slightly in his own zone and wasn't one to appreciate quite where he was and what he was doing."
"It's massively disappointing. I haven't got too much to say other than the fact that he's let himself down hugely really, and it's a disappointment for him and the franchise."
