By the time the Half-Blood Prince had begun filming, Daniel Radcliffe had reached legal drinking age and it's fair to say, the boy wizard wasted less time learning new spells, and more time getting utterly liquid lucked on nights out.

In an interview with Heat Magazine, Radcliffe revealed that he regularly showed up to work drunk, saying, "I have a very addictive personality. It was a problem."

People with problems like that are very adept at hiding it. It was bad. I don't want to go into details, but I drank a lot and it was daily — I mean nightly.

"I can honestly say I never drank at work on Harry Potter. I went into work still drunk, but I never drank at work. I can point to many scenes where I'm just gone. Dead behind the eyes."

In a separate interview with Shortlist magazine, Radcliffe admitted that the pressures of fame had led him to depend on drink and that he "blacked out" every time he drank. After becoming increasingly concerned with his public behaviour, he resorted to drinking alone at home.

The young star spoke to his on screen Godfather Gary Oldman, who himself battled alcoholism in the 1990s, as his problem worsened. Thankfully, the actor won his battle against his demons and became tee-total in 2010.
