10 Scariest Horror Movie Endings Of All Time
5. Night Of The Living Dead
Literally the defining movie of the whole zombie sub-genre, George A. Romero's first hack at creating the undead is one of the lasting images that horror will leave on this cold, dying planet when we've all turned to dust after our atmosphere collapses. Telling a taught story of survivors attempting to overcome the threat of decaying monsters trying to break in their house and eat them, the film follows smart and capable man Ben as he manages to last out the night as his friends are slowly picked off - only to then face an issue of a very different kind.
Playing out as a terrifying ending for its human implications rather than the ones related to the living dead, Ben is only killed once the threat has been eviscerated and a group of roaming zombie-killers happens upon him. Unceremoniously shooting him and chucking him on the pile to burn, it's a stunningly bleak ending to a movie that appears on the surface to just be a dose of mad zombie fun, instead hiding a complicated look into society's preconceptions underneath the whole flesh-eating fiasco.
