1. Sinister - Lawnmower
Sinister is filled with many horrifying moments, but the scene showing the poor family being run over by a lawnmower is undoubtedly one of the scariest moments to ever happen in a horror film.
Ellison and his family move into a new home, where he finds a box of Super 8 reels, each filming the murder of different families in various awful and gruesome ways.
The tape labelled Lawn Work '86 features the unseen murderer filming a family in the rain from outside their home, spending quality time together. However, like the previous tapes, it cuts to the nighttime, showing the figure opening the gate to the family's backyard and turning on a lawnmower.
The camera follows on the path of the lawnmower only illuminated by the light of the camera until it's revealed the family we saw before is tied up in the grass and ran over by the lawnmower.
This scene is terrifying based on the pure sadistic nature of the killings and the fact that there was no need for jump scares or build-up to create this terrifying scene, as it catches the audiences completely off guard since we never know what the tapes are going to show us.
