10 Scariest Horror Movies Set In Motels
9. Hell House LLC
In Hell House LLC, a company sets up a haunted house tour in an abandoned motel for a Halloween event. On the opening night, something happens in the facility, resulting in the death of 15 people. Five years later, a documentary crew arrive at the infamous Hell House to get to the bottom of the unexplained tragedy.
Even though found-footage horror has been popular for decades, few films that implement this style are met with praise. (Paranormal Activity and The Blair-Witch Project were smash-hits but they didn't win over many critics.)
However, Hell House LLC uses the found-footage style perfectly since it doesn't rely on shaky-cam, jump-scares, or other amateur tactics. Because of the intriguing set-up, well-paced action, and smart characters (which is a rarity in horror), there are moments where Hell House LLC feels like an authentic doc.
Some of the dialogue is weak but you don't really notice since the actors are utterly convincing, especially when they have to act terrified. The trailer makes the film look like its going to be full of the usual tropes but Hell House LLC is a lot cleverer (and scarier) than your average horror.
