10 Scariest Horror Movies Set In Motels

2. Identity

Hostel 2
Columbia Pictures

In Identity, ten strangers are forced to stay at a motel after the roads in the area become flooded. After they start dying one-by-one, the group realise there is a murderer among them. Although they seemingly have no connection to one another, they discover that they all have the exact same birthday, proving there is a deeper link between them.

The plot may seem a little derivative at first but there is a big rug-pulling moment that proves Identity isn't a simple whodunnit. Any time you feel like you have some idea where the plot is going, you're blindsided by another unexpected turn. Having too many twists can overcomplicate a story, especially when one is thrown in at the last minute but Identity makes it work since every unexpected moments adds a whole new layer to the plot.

As a bonus, the film boasts a phenomenal cast including Alfred Molina, John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Ray Liotta, John C. McGinley, and Jake Busey. Even though every actor is entertaining, Cusack's sincere performance keeps everything grounded, which makes the story work when things get a bit surreal.
