10 Scariest Movie Ghosts EVER

6. Tomás - The Orphanage (2007)

Children make for creepy ghosts because of the tragedy inherent in a child’s death.

So when we see the ghost of Tomás in The Orphanage, the question isn’t simply “How has this child died?” but also “Why is he wearing that weird sack on his head?”

As the sad history of The Orphanage unfolds, both these questions are answered and the scares make way for a touching tale of the dead finding peace.

Tomás is such a memorable ghost because he almost looks like he could just be a child in a Halloween mask, but there's just something about the design of the hessian sack - with its huge dark eye-holes - that resembles something between a scarecrow and an executioner's hood. Either way, when Tomás first appears at the birthday party amongst other masked children he certainly seems more ghostly than the others.

The Orphanage also ticks the horror movie trope of a child drawing a crayon picture of their imaginary friend. Always a spooky moment!
