Although not a straight horror film in the conventional sense, Darren Aronofsky's Requiem For A Dream still manages to burrow its way under your skin from the very first frame. Chronicling the slow decline of four addicts, the movie's grim cinematography and oppressive hallucination scenes develop an uneasy atmosphere that sticks with you long after it ends. By far the most tragic moment comes from Ellen Burstyn's Sara Goldfarb, a lonely elderly woman conned into thinking she's going to be appearing on television. In an attempt to slim down so she can fit into her favourite dress for her supposed prime-time debut, she takes to "diet pills" (in reality a concoction of speed and god knows what else) so she can lose those extra pounds a bit faster. Unravelling due to her addiction but never losing hope in her delusion to be on TV, Sarah slowly loses her mind over the course of movie, eventually ending up in a psychiatric hospital undergoing electroshock therapy and coming out the other end a shell of her former self. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADJE5gat_W8
