Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark is an anthology story with an overarching narrative, loosely based on the classic '80s horror novel. With so many different narrative strands to it, scares are aplenty, but there's a couple of standouts for its ultimate scare.
It relies a little too much on jump scares and has too many parts which just breeze on by, but there are a few moments which show how much potential it had. Being a little bit more brutal with parts that didn't work and stitching together the parts which did more masterfully could've seen Scary Stories become the horror flick of the year.
Speaking of being brutal and stitching things together, The Jangly Man was the standout part of Scary Stories, only serving to taunt viewers with the quality the movie was actually capable of.
A pseudo Frankenstein story, The Jangly Man was a decomposing corpse, one who stitched up any wounds in his decaying body with other people's skin. A horrific tale, one based on trying to combine all the novel's original artwork together, and the scariest, more disgusting moment Scary Stories had to offer.
