10 Scariest Natural Disaster Movies You Need To See

3. Crawl

The Impossible Naomi Watts
Paramount Pictures

Crawl never stops escalating throughout its 87-minute runtime, with a story that begins with aspiring swimmer Haley attempting to rescue her estranged father during an F5 hurricane. Considering an F5 is the most powerful storm imaginable, it feels like things couldn't get worse.

However, that notion is proven wrong when the storm ends up flooding the entire city. And when a family of laser-focused alligators start to stalk Haley, her chances of survival hit rock bottom.

What makes these gators more terrifying is how they act like they have a vendetta against our heroine. Any time someone gets in the man-eating reptiles' way, they make short work of them before continuing their pursuit of Haley, proving to be extremely strategic, such as going under houses to catch the Final Girl off-guard.

Crawl keeps viewers on their toes since it keeps switching from traditional disaster flick to monster B-movie. Due to the intense storm sequences, the audience can momentarily forget they're watching a creature feature, which makes it more hair-raising every time the gators return.
