10 Scariest Short Horror Films You've Probably Never Seen

1. Possibly In Michigan (1983)

Created by award-winning video artist Cecilia Condit, Possibly in Michigan is a hallucinogenic feminist fever dream that centres around friends Janice (Karen Skladany, who also composed the music) and Sharon (Jill Sands), who are followed by a mask-wearing cannibal (Bill Blume) in a department store.

While this premise alone is enough to make this 1983 short a strange watch, things only get much weirder from here.

In addition to the purposefully off-kilter performances, macabre themes surrounding violence and cannibalism, surreal imagery, and its subversions of horror tropes, the weirdest and best part of Possibly in Michigan is that it’s a musical. And the soundtrack is just as bonkers as everything else in this film.

Backed by a hypnotic and repetitive synth score, the two women half-sing and half-speak the lyrics as they talk about disturbing topics, with the most infamous scene revolving around a woman who put their poodle in a microwave. Throw these ingredients together, and the result is an unapologetically absurd and nightmarish viewing experience.

Moreover, this short re-emerged as a viral sensation back in 2015 where it gained notoriety as being a cursed film which is said to cause terrible things to happen to whoever watches it.
