10 Sci-Fi & Fantasy Movies That Were Surprisingly Successful AFTER They Bombed In Theaters

CL_Legend You probably own most of these movies. You bought the Blu-Ray even though you own the DVD, much to your spouse's chagrin. Whenever possible, you show off the Flash Gordon LaserDisc you got off Ebay, signed by Sam J. Jones, Timothy Dalton, and Max Von Sydow... who all have surprisingly similar signatures, when you come to think of it. In hushed tones, you tell the story of how you saw one of these films in an empty theater - and the way it made you feel like it was made just for you. Yes, you are that fan. You loved these movies before everyone else did, before word of mouth about them caught on. Hell, you ARE the word of mouth. Here are a few sci-fi/fantasy/horror films - films we now all know and love - that were wet noodles in theaters, but found their following on home video. Each of these films received a wide release in theaters and were box office disappointments. Either they didn't recoup on their investment or barely exceeded it. Since that time they've acquired a large cult following on video, with multiple DVD or Blu-Ray releases, including some form of deluxe edition or director's cut.
