10 Sci-Fi Movie Death Scenes That Came Out Of Nowhere

8. Carolyn Fry (Radha Mitchell) - Pitch Black

Pitch Black is an action horror starring Vin Diesel as Richard Riddick, a bounty hunter and criminal with altered eyes allowing him to see in the dark (but not in the daylight, which seems counter-productive).

During the flick Riddick teams up with a group of people who have crash landed on a planet inhabited by flesh eating monsters. Among the survivors of the crash is Carolyn Fry (Radha Mitchell), a pilot who develops mutual respect for Riddick over the course of the film. After the pair team up to save some other crash survivors, Riddick is separated from the group and comes face to face with the monsters pursuing them.

Though Fry has a chance to escape with her friends, she refuses to leave Riddick behind and goes after him, but just as they are back together she is killed by one of the creatures, which flies off with the body.

The quiet scene is deeply atmospheric and watching Riddick collapse in anguish, saying "Not for me" as he looks into the sky, is wonderfully executed. Though well controlled a scene, it doesn't make Fry's sudden demise any less shocking.
