10 Sci-Fi Movie Flops That Were Actually Great
7. Europa Report (2013)
Falling into the realm of ‘believable sci-fi’, Europa Report captures extraterrestrial exploration only a few decades into the future. Europa is an ice-moon orbiting Jupiter and the film follows the international crew intending to search for life.
Europa Report received strong reviews from critiques but suffered dismal box office returns. A brutal result considering how brilliant it is.
It utilizes found-footage in a totally fresh and inspired way and rewards patience as it slow-burns its way through the discovery. The performances are excellent and hyper-realistic. The dialogue is suitably natural and professional, never once misjudging a reaction.
The film is an almost constant crescendo that culminates in a goosebump-inducing climax and deserves a considerably wider and more patient audience.
Budget: $10,000,000 estimated
