10 Sci-Fi Movie Moments That Pissed Off Fans

2. John Connor Dies - Terminator: Dark Fate

For fans of the Terminator franchise, the Connor family is sacred. Built up as the final hope for humanity in a future world dominated by Skynet, John Connor is almost like a god to an entire generation of fans that have only ever seen him being kept alive at all costs or doing his best to live up to his heroic nature through awesome sequences and daring feats.

From Edward Furlong to Christian Bale, he's a character that sci-fi fans have always loved seeing. Right up until 2019's Terminator: Dark Fate at least.

In the film's opening scene, a T-800 model Terminator is shown walking past Sarah Connor, pulling a gun on John and simply firing on him. Sarah gives a brief summary, a Terminator POV shot shows John is dead, and that's it. An entire series wiped out in barely two minutes.

The Terminator franchise has struggled to match the heights of the first two films since their release, but none in the series has ever destroyed it in one quick moment like Dark Fate did. The entire heart of the franchise is ripped out in just a handful of minutes, and the film shows absolutely no care for the thoughts or feelings of its fans. It's a terrible decision that would end up costing Paramount $130 million in losses, and few fans have forgiven for the studio for this one moment.

It looks set to be the thing that finally kills off the Terminator franchise.
