10 Sci-Fi Movie Mysteries That Can Never Be Solved

Everyone loves a head-scratcher, and these films certainly left us with more questions than answers.

A riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. This might have been a line from a Churchill war speech, but it is absolutely something that can be applied to these movies! For decades, science fiction cinema has been posing the biggest questions in the universe, and not always giving us the clearest of answers!

Sci-fi is designed to provoke thought and question, to challenge what we know and understand, all whilst transporting us into worlds, galaxies and civilizations far from our own. As humans, we are naturally curious, particularly in what might or might not be "out there", and it is a common theme of movies from this genre to give us plenty to discuss and in the process probably leave us with many questions.

Many mysteries of the sci-fi movie world are destined to remain as such, but half of the fun is in the guessing, the insane fan theories, and as frustrating as it can be, sometimes it's best not to know everything.

These are films that left us confused, scratching our heads, and with a never-ending list of questions...

10. Blade Runner

Arguably this is the biggest sci-fi movie mystery of them all, and even a much-hyped sequel didn't help us to answer the question!

The 1982 dystopian masterpiece introduced us to the character of Deckard (played by Harrison Ford), who we believe is hunting down the bio-engineered humans known as "replicants".

The film was deliberately ambiguous about whether Deckard was himself a replicant, and this even proved to be a point of contention between Harrison Ford, and the film's director Ridley Scott. They disagreed, and have subsequently staunchly argued their points on this, Ford believing his character to be human, and Scott arguing that he is a replicant.

Whilst the film, and it's sequel Blade Runner 2049 are not conclusive in answering this, it is this mystery that actually adds some weight to the film's themes. Throughout, we are made to question what it means to be human and what this looks like, so in not knowing the truth about Deckard, we are left to ponder this forever.

We'd still quite like an answer though!
