10 Sci-Fi Movie Mysteries That Can Never Be Solved

7. Interstellar

Christopher Nolan movies are notorious for giving us more questions than they do answers, frequently playing around with time, reality, and linearity. Interstellar manages to cover all three of these!

The film actually manages to answer a lot of its own questions throughout its mammoth runtime, however it is the notion of the "fifth dimension" that left us confused.

Throughout, the characters are seemingly helped by "them", mysterious beings that are assumed to be extraterrestials. In the final act however, Matthew McConaughey's Cooper discovers that "they" are not aliens at all, but the humans of the future who are able to exist and navigate through a fifth dimension.

The question we're left with is how did humanity, seemingly at risk from starvation in the beginning of the film, survive long enough to master this interdimensional form of communication and this is something the film leaves unanswered. We see the resolution and that this is the key to ensuring future generations survive, but this still doesn't explain how there are those who survive the blight long enough to achieve this. We may never know!
