Steven Spielberg's 1977 alien invasion movie is full of mystery and intrigue, particularly in its closing moments.

Alien invasion movies can only really end in two ways, either the aliens are destroyed, or the humans and aliens reach a point of understanding and peace between them, able to live harmoniously from that point on.

Close Encounters takes the latter approach, however it is also one of those films that feels like the most interesting things happen after we have finished watching! As we see Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss) ascend into the spaceship, we're left with a ton of questions. What does the spaceship look like inside? Does he ever come back? What happens to those left behind? We may never know!
