10 Sci-Fi Movie Remakes That Need To Happen

9. Forbidden Planet

Outland 1981
Warner Bros.

Forbidden Planet is a film that helped to pioneer the science fiction genre, as it was one of the first titles to produce a story in this style that wasn't seen as entirely silly. Modern sensibilities may have altered this perception, but that doesn't change the fact that this film worked wonders for the genre, and nowadays acts as an incredibly funny and campy exploration of 1950s sci-fi.

The story tells us of a star-ship crew that travel to a planet whose colony residents have become silent. Upon arriving, they discover only two remaining citizens, and soon uncover many unforeseen disasters.

The narrative is straightforward and really indulges in all the whims and expenditures that can come from the genre. For example, the involvement of Robby the Robot is an excellent display of the silly fun you will have watching this film.

It deserves to be remade as the story has a lot of compelling aspects to it, including a focus on the Freudian concept of the Id and many other dramatic elements. To take it and improve upon the visuals could either generate a severe and serious cautionary tale or a deliberately campy and goofy flick akin to the style of old.
