Just five months after the original Godzilla film was released in Japan, the kaiju was once again wreaking havoc in Godzilla Raids Again.

Directed by Motoyoshi Oda, this movie is the first to feature the titular monster doing battle with another creature. The creature in question is Anguirus, a four-legged dinosaur with five different brains.

The film has all the hallmarks of the first Godzilla, serving as an allegory for the dangers of nuclear war. The sequel also allowed special effects director Eiji Tsuburaya to get more creative with costume design. His innovations included constructing the Godzilla and Aguirus costmes out of lighter material and including motors in them to aid movement.

Whilst Raids Again might seem pretty standard on the surface - two big monsters fight each other and destroy a city - it's important to remember that this was the first Godzilla movie to introduce the idea of Creature vs. Creature combat.

Whilst the initial shock of seeing irradiated behemoths rampaging on screen may have worn off for some viewers, Godzilla Raids Again is still a fantastic kaiju movie that helped establish one of the cornerstones of the genre.
