10 Sci-Fi Movie Sequels That Are Practically Flawless
6. Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes
It cannot be understated how important the original 1968 Planet of the Apes movie is to cinema.
The makeup and special effects are outstanding, as is the tightness of the script and the legendary twist. It was also one of the first movies to be franchised, spawning four sequels in the early '70s.
With the exception of Tim Burton's remake in 2001, the series lay dormant until it was picked up again in 2011. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a prequel, laying out the events that led to humanity falling to the advanced primates. It was the shot in the arm the franchise needed and, three years later, it got a follow-up.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes details the relationship between Ape leader, Caesar, and human, Malcolm, as the attempt to stop their respective species from exploding into all-out war.
The tension of the film is actually aided by the fact you know how it ends, as you watch squeamishly through your fingers at the idiotic decisions undertaken by your fellow members of mankind
A phenomenal film in its own, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is a fitting addition to one of film's most enduring series.
