10 Sci-Fi Movie Sequels That Are Practically Flawless
4. Mad Max 2
Before he decided to go absolutely insane and say some really horrible things, Mel Gibson was one of Hollywood's brightest stars thanks in no small part to his role as the titular Mad Max.
A brooding strongman in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, Gibson enthralled critics as "Mad" Max Rockatansky in his first outing, to the point where a sequel came along just two years later.
After the events of the first movie, Max wants to rediscovery his humanity and does so by helping a small village fend off a group of murderous bikers. He does so in typical badass fashion, killing enemies left, right, and centre with an array of weapons including his trusty sawn-off shotgun.
Mad Max 2 (also known as The Road Warrior in some circles) set the bar high when it came to post apocalypse movies. It helped establish the convention of desolate desert wastelands in dystopian movies and Max's roving mercenary character brought the cowboy archetype into the future.
Praised almost universally for its story, acting, cinematography, and score, Mad Max 2 excelled in its task in following up on the first film.
