10 Sci-Fi Movie Villains That Killed The Hero
3. Star Trek: The Wrath Of Khan
For many a Trekkie out there, one universal truth about the films is accepted - Spock's death scene in Wrath of Khan was utterly heart-wrenching.
Tangling with the genetically engineered warlord Khan, the crew of The Enterprise seem in over their heads when the coup goes off, leaving Captain Kirk stranded. Being the sneaky devil he is, Kirk tricks Khan into a nearby nebula that brings down his shields, exposing his ship to open combat.
Realising he is outmatched, Khan deploys a last ditch effort - an experimental device known as Genesis capable of rearranging all the atoms within the nebula, including his own ship and The Enterprise. Seeing no way to escape due to a damaged warp drive flooded with radiation, Spock knows what must be done to save his friends.
Spock eventually repairs the warp drive and allows his crew and friends to get a safe distance away from the device. Succumbing to the radiation poisoning, Spock consoles a regretful Kirk in those immortal words: "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."
No matter which sci-fi fandom camp you belong to, this is once scene that is guaranteed to make any of us geeks shed a tear.
