10 Sci-Fi Movie Villains That Killed The Hero

4. Terminator 2 & Dark Fate

Terminator Dark Fate John Connor Death
Paramount Pictures

Dark Fate picks up in an alternate timeline from most of the previous franchise entries, just after the events of T2: Judgement Day, where John Connor - supposed future leader of the resistance against Skynet - and his mother Sarah had obliterated the T100 and Skynet, apparently saving the future. By the time Dark Fate rolls around three years later, Sarah and her son are enjoying life by the beach in Guatemala.

Unfortunately, the machines are having none of that and decide to do something about it.

While at a nearby bar, the young John Connor is approached by a familiar gigantic man wielding a rather conspicuous shotgun. Realising too late the danger her son is in, Sarah can only watch as the T800 guns down her defenceless son, all the while powerless to stop it from happening.

Satisfied that his mission is complete and that John Connor is dead, the T800 walks off into the sun - though this film isn't quite done with him yet.

For a movie that was comparatively bland by Terminator's standards, this absolute gut-punch of an opening sting was a bleak look into what the world of The Terminator may still have to offer.
