10 Sci-Fi Movies Audiences Walked Out Of
4. Deadpool
The MCU has been entertaining us for well over a decade now, which means some kids have grown up watching Marvel characters and those movies have become firm family favourites.
It’s easy to see why. Marvel offerings generally offer enough action and adventure to hold a kid's attention, a good dollop of humour, and a cast of colourful characters. They can have darker moments, but usually nothing too scary, and they don’t contain sex, swearing or anything else that’s going to lead to awkwardness at family movie night.
So, it’s understandable that parents wanted to take their kids along to the latest offering based on a Marvel property, even if Deadpool wasn’t actually made by Marvel Studios.
What’s less understandable is parents persisting with this plan even after the film was given an R-rating (15 in the UK), and the picture's star himself penning an open letter urging them not to bring children to see this one.
Despite Ryan Reynolds’ efforts to actually keep some of the ticket-buying public away from Deadpool, some parents still tried to make this rude, crude flick into a family outing. This of course led to those same parents being appalled by the film’s mature content, storming out of screens and kicking off in a totally avoidable bit of public outrage.
