3. Independence Day: Resurgence

When Will Smith was cast as part of the ensemble for the original Independence Day in 1996, few could have guessed what an Oscar-winning, box office-topping, comedian-clobbering megastar Will would become. The jingoistic alien Invasion movie proved to be a breakout role for the former Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

So, when a belated sequel was announced, it would be an understatement to say Smith was notable by his absence, despite Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum both returning in their original roles. Liam Hemsworth helped round out the cast but it wasn’t enough to obscure the obvious missing link.

Independence Day: Resurgence also garnered a slew of negative reviews, which didn’t have exactly help as it underperformed at the box office but nostalgia for the original and a heavy marketing push meant it wasn’t a total box office bomb.

Sadly, many who did fork out for a ticket reached two conclusions. Firstly, those critics with the negative reviews were right. Secondly, we’d be better off cutting our losses and leaving now.

As one film fan, Brokid81, put it on Reddit, “I found it to be so bad, I just couldn’t take another second of it.”
