10 Sci-Fi Movies Critics Were Way Too Harsh On
8. Pandorum
Undoubtedly one of the most bafflingly berated films in recent memory, Pandorum was released to dishearteningly negative reviews - and a lacklustre box officer performance - in 2009. Now while all films are subjective, the reason this writer uses the term 'bafflingly' is down to the fact that it holds a mere 28% rating on Rotten Tomatoes - which, in all honesty, is a bit of a joke.
Pandorum sure wasn't perfect, but it did put forward some unique ideas of its own, ensuring that it wasn't anywhere near as 'derivative' as some critics claimed it to be. What's more is that it used elements of Lovecraftian horror to enhance that concept - again, without being too derivative - and the strange marriage worked pretty well.
A deep space thriller that is almost every bit as suspenseful as Alien - yes, I went there - Pandorum is something of a forgotten classic, and it damn sure deserves more credit than critics were ever willing to give it.
If it had been released decades earlier it may have gotten a little more love than it ultimately did, but not even that should be allowed to rob it of the applause it deserves.
