10 Sci-Fi Movies Critics Were Way Too Harsh On
6. The Book Of Eli
The YA wave of dystopian fiction has littered Hollywood with so many unnecessary post-apocalyptic adventures that it's hard to even get excited about the thought of a futuristic sci-fi. That, however, wasn't enough to prevent 2010's The Book of Eli from offering us a refreshing alternative to that exhausted genre.
A stylish, sci-fi neo-western, the film is set in a desolate landscape long after a war eradicated the majority of mankind. However, the mysterious Eli possesses a book that holds the key to preserving humanity's future and is ultimately tasked by a higher power with taking said book to a safe location.
With a visual presentation so innovative that even its bland 47% Tomatometer score praises it for its refreshing take, it's a shame that critics weren't a little more open-minded to the film at the time of its release. I mean, who wouldn't want to see Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman duke it out in the, well, New West?
