9. Event Horizon Cut Its Best Footage

Okay this one isn’t the director’s fault directly, and in fact it’s only fair to give Resident Evil helmer Paul W.S Anderson some credit—he did do all he could to try and avoid the issue plaguing Event Horizon. The problem is with the producers, a refrain which should sound familiar to—well, anyone who knows anything about how Hollywood works really.

Nonetheless, the finished flick still suffered from the studio deciding to go above the heads of the filmmakers and cut a significant portion of the movie’s more gruesome depictions of hellish alternate dimensions. The scenes owed more to Clive Barker’s dark Hellraiser imagery than anything from the director’s later, more conventional space-based horror Alien Vs. Predator.

As a result, the finished film is nowhere near as intense as its original cut is rumoured to be, with only very brief glimpses of the horrors of hyperspace travel remaining from the original cut’s lengthy depiction of the crewmember’s bloody fates. Worse yet, even though the atmospheric film is still widely considered Anderson’s best, the missing footage has since gone AWOL according to the embattled filmmaker, meaning the unedited cut is unlikely to ever see the light of day.

Cathal Gunning hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
