9. Old Sarah Connor & The Senator - Terminator 2: Judgment Day
The actual ending of James Cameron's sci-fi classic Terminator 2: Judgment Day is great: Sarah Connor considers that "if a machine can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too," and things are left on a somewhat ambiguous - but relatively happy - note. The alternative ending, however, would have depicted an elderly Sarah Connor alive on August 29, 2029, watching John Connor - now revealed to be a Senator - playing with his daughter in a playground. Now, you're probably thinking: "Hm. That ending isn't necessarily better than the original one - in fact, it might be worse. By quite some margin, even." You're not wrong. Thing is, had James Cameron opted for this particular ending, it would have meant that all the other, terrible Terminator movies probably would never have been made. Think about it: this ending denies the existence of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Terminator Salvation and Terminator Genisys in one fell swoop. If Sarah Connor got old, then none of those terrible sequels ever happened, right? That this future might ever have even been a possibility would have made this more generic, upbeat Hollywood ending worth sitting through, surely?
