10 Scrapped Horror Movie Sequels Much Better Than What We Got

6. Poltergeist: Kayeri

Before saddling audiences with a terrible remake in 2015, Hollywood thought it be a grand idea to pop out yet another sequel in the supposedly cursed Poltergeist franchise. Talk of this began floating around the internet in 2005, about 17 years since the release of the disastrous third entry.

Titled Poltergeist: Kayeri, this entry would’ve focused on Stephen Freeling (Craig T. Nelson) now living like a recluse in the mountains of California. Once again besieged by the evil Reverend Kane, it’s up to him, and a band that’s shooting an EPK video in the mountains to battle The Beast and help Stephen reconcile with his family.

Supposedly this script would have mostly ignored Poltergeist 3, instead focusing heavily on the events of the second film. Nelson was said to have been the only cast member returning, though Stephen’s wife Diane was said to have had a short appearance toward the end of the film if actress Jo-Beth Williams was willing to return.

The biggest item of note, however, was that Carol-Anne would have shown up. Rumored to have been played by Hilary Duff, her character would've had minimal screen time out of respect for deceased actress Heather O’Rourke, the girl who portrayed Carol-Anne in the first three films.

While the idea *may* have worked it likely would've been in spite of itself. Craig T. Nelson is a strong actor and surely would’ve knocked it out of the park as a man haunted by his feelings of inadequacy toward being unable to protect his family. Problem is, that idea already had some play in the sequel so to focus an entire film around that would’ve just been retreading old ground.
