10 Scrapped Horror Movie Sequels Much Better Than What We Got

4. House Of Re-Animator

1985 not only saw the release of the soon to be classic film Re-Animator, but it also introduced the world to director Stuart Gordon. And though the series had spawned two sequels, Gordon never returned to the director’s chair, instead leaving that duty up to producer of the original Brian Yuzna. But in the mid 2000s it was announced that Gordon was set to return to the franchise that endeared him to gorehounds everywhere in the form of a new sequel, entitled House of Re-Animator.

Heavily inspired by events within the Bush administration, this film was to tell the tale of Herbert West (Jeffery Combs) being called to the White House in order to reanimate the President of the United States after his sudden death. And as one could imagine, things would turn south rather quickly.

This entry was to be a homecoming for the series as not only was Gordon returning to direct, but author of the original film, Dennis Paoli, was penning the script, and after sitting out part 3, the character of Dan Cain was set to appear once again to be played by Bruce Abbot. But best of all? The President was to be played by William H. Macy! How cool is that?

Things soon turned sour though as the production company that originally backed the idea began to get cold feet, believing the satire contained within this politically charged horror comedy wouldn’t sit well with some. This lead to the project ultimately falling apart due to the fact that by the time money was raised and the film released, a new president would have been in office, rendering the topical concept null and void.
