It's no secret that Avengers: Endgame went through countless iterations and drafts before finally arriving at the three-hour epic released to cinemas.

One of the more intriguing pieces of fan service that sadly didn't make the cut was a planned fight between Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Asgardian gatekeeper Heimdall (Idris Elba).

In an early draft, Tony Stark would be the one to accompany Thor (Chris Hemsworth) to Asgard rather than Rocket (Bradley Cooper), which would lead to him facing off against Heimdall.

Though Stark would wear an invisibility suit - presumably in order to extract the Aether from Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) - Heimdall would detect him regardless, leading to a brief fisticuffs before Stark presumably prevails.

Co-writer Stephen McFeely added that the scene was mainly to allow Stark to consider the juxtaposition of science and magic in the MCU, but let's face it, for most fans the prospect of seeing these two heavyweight characters throw down was just irresistible. Plus, it would've probably given Idris Elba his best material of the franchise.

Ultimately we can't be too mad, though, because Tony's New York excursion is still pretty damn great.
