5. Dr. Alan Grant - Jurassic Park (1993 - 2001)
Re-watching Jurassic Park recently it dawned on me just how heroic Sam Neil's palaeontologist is. This archetypal right-man-wrong-place hero keeps his wits about him while everyone else panics and not only avoids becoming lunch himself but helps a bunch of people escape the worst tourist attraction since Itchy & Scratchy Land. And he does it all while keeping two rather annoying children alive...well, nobody's perfect. However, this quick thinking action hero has presumably spent the past twenty 20 years looking at bones in the ground and the 10 years before that reading about bones found in the ground so should definitely be leaning more towards the Ross from Friends School Of Palaeontology as opposed to Arnie's Department Of Dealing Death To Dinosaurs School.
