10 Screen Heroes Who Should Have Been Giant Nerds

2. Stanley Goodspeed - The Rock (1996)

2nic cage the rock In at number two is Stanley Goodspeed, hero of The Rock and the closest of everyone on this list to actually being a giant nerd on screen. This self confessed chemical weapons 'freak' says all the right things to be considered a nerd among nerds: He bought his first chemistry set aged 10 (and nearly killed the dog...and his eyebrows) he works in a lab, drives a Volvo (a beige one) doesn't curse and obsessively collects memorabilia. So far, so major-league nerdilinger. However all that goes out the window the moment we see the first helicopter flying at sunset and remember that this is Michael Bay at his best. Stanley takes down a company of highly trained soldiers - with the help of Sean Connery, who could be included in another list titled 'Screen Heroes Who Couldn't Take On Solid Food' - and saves an entire city from a horrible death and then goes home to f*ck the prom queen. Not bad work for a lab rat.
