10 Secret Subplots Hidden In Movies

3. Eric's Compromised Powers - The Crow

The Truman Show Jim Carrey
Miramax

Half-way through The Crow, Eric Draven (Brandon Lee) avenges the murder of both himself and his fiancee Shelly (Sofia Shinas) by killing the man responsible, Funboy (Michael Massee).

For the rest of the movie, you might notice that Eric has his hands and stomach crudely taped up with black electrical tape, yet the reason for this is never actually explained.

As it turns out, a ton of material was cut from Funboy's death scene which delved deeper into the mechanics of Eric's powers. Originally, Funboy woke up in the bathtub and attacked Eric with a razor, causing cuts on his hands and stomach before Eric was able to fight back and kill him.

The character of the Skull Cowboy, who was removed from the film during production, was further supposed to explain that Eric's powers were dependent on him seeking personal revenge, and would diminish if he attempted to help solve the problems of the living.

And so, him helping Funboy's drug addict girlfriend Darla (Anna Levine) get her life back on track in this scene caused his powers to lessen, making him vulnerable to Funboy's attacks and preventing his wounds from healing immediately.

On one hand the electrical tape is just a straight-up cool look for the character, but it's actually more of a practical decision than a fashionable one.
