2. Truman's Ring Is Actually A Camera - The Truman Show

The Truman Show is one of those wonderful films that just opens itself up more and more every time you watch it.

Director Peter Weir made sure to have Truman's (Jim Carrey) artificial reality littered with cameras for the audience to spot, and one of them is even hiding directly in plain sight: Truman's distinctive ring.

The large black gem on this ring is in fact a camera, as confirmed by one of the film's deleted scenes. But the story gets much deeper than that, as eagle-eyed viewers might've also noticed that, in the movie's flashbacks, the ring is first being worn by Truman's father (Brian Delate).

The suggestion is that just before Truman's dad "drowned," he was able to pass the ring to Truman, who was predictably compelled to wear it as a tribute to his dad. In turn, this ensured that the producers would always have a camera on Truman's person that he'd never take off.

But when Truman's dad makes his return to the show later on, Truman removes the ring and gives it back to his dad, which explains why the producers later struggled to locate Truman once he made his escape at the end of the film.

Simply, genius.
