10 Secrets From The Set Of Ridley Scott's Alien
3. Ridley Scott Played An Egg
Another example of the great Ridley Scott being a hands-on kind of director, there was actually a moment there where his hands were very much on-screen... sort of.
Few will ever be able to forget the moment they first saw something move around within one of the eggs Kane discovered in the ship on LV-426. The stuff inside of it was actually made up of cow stomach and sheep intestines, but the crew still couldn't quite work out how to make it pulsate in a way that would thoroughly creep out audiences (via EW).
When they finally decided they needed to manually move these pieces of meat, it was Scott who offered to shove his hand inside of the "hero egg." Throwing on a pair of rubber gloves, crew members could be heard saying "Oh my God" as a game Scott pushed the disgusting insides around and made the whole thing look revolting real.
That's not the only fascinating secret about this egg moment on set, though...
