10 Seemingly Awful Movie Castings That Ultimately Paid Off
3. Harry Styles As Alex - Dunkirk
A lot has been made of Hollywood's newfound obsession with casting former One Direction star and all-round pop icon Harry Styles in as many upcoming features as possible, with some questioning whether the star currently possesses the ability to deliver the goods in the likes of the MCU and Olivia Wilde's Don't Worry Darling.
But once again, Christopher Nolan sensed there was something worth capturing on film when it pertained to this particular under-estimated star and did not hesitate to bring the Brit aboard his Dunkirk war epic in 2017. And the unexpectedly successful end results speak for themselves.
While he may not have stolen the whole movie, something very few were understandably expecting when sharing the stage with the likes of Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance, and Tom Hardy, Styles definitely holds his own as an mouthy young soldier by the name of Alex fighting for his country and life throughout the WWII epic.
And while it remains to be seen whether Styles will be able to evolve into a talent capable of captivating an audience for longer than a few brief scenes, these few flickers of acting fire were enough to drown out all talk of him not being up to the Dunkirk task.
