6. Russell Crowe As Javert - Les Miserables

Tom Hooper had a tall order when it came to casting the two fierce rivals Jean Valjean and Javert in his cinematic adaptation of the critically acclaimed musical Les Miserables (2012). However, most initially agreed that he'd landed on two of the most capable leading men in the industry when Aussie stars Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe both signed on the dotted line.

Yet, while fans were well aware of Jackman's musical prowess from his early stage career, people weren't really sure what to expect from the Gladiator (2000) star when it came to his warbling ability and were curious to see how the Academy Award winner would cope.

Just a few short notes into his run as the driven police inspector, though, fans quickly realised this potentially marvellous piece of casting wasn't going to hit all the right notes, and unfortunately Crowe's bang average singing severely blighted the rest of his otherwise convincing performance.

While the likes of Jackman and Anne Hathaway both drew critical acclaim for their stirring turns and excellent singing, Crowe was mocked relentlessly for his unsuccessful attempt to bring Javert's commanding baritone voice to the big screen.

That still hasn't stopped him having a sing-song online in the years that followed, though.
