10 Seemingly Brilliant Movie Casting Choices Which Ultimately Fell Flat
5. Jennifer Lawrence As Mystique - X-Men Series
It all started out so well for Jennifer Lawrence in the land of the mutants.
Off the back of her star-making performance in Winter's Bone (2010), the young actor was cast in the revived X-Men series which would act as a prequel to the events we'd seen take place in the original trilogy. Lawrence would play Mystique, the shapeshifting mutant whose skin is naturally blue.
After witnessing her stellar work in the aforementioned Winter's Bone, fans were right to assume Lawrence had the goods to deliver an impressive showing as Raven and deliver she did... at first.
However, once Lawrence started to become more successful and more of a draw as an actor, the star decided she wasn't too fond of the tedious make-up process or the films as a whole. So the Oscar winner ended up spending large parts of the later prequels in her human 'disguise' looking like she wanted to be anywhere else but there.
What initially appeared to be yet another piece of outstanding casting - to go with the likes of Michaels Fassbender as Magneto and James McAvoy as Professor X - soon became a serious distraction and it probably would've been better for all parties had Lawrence left the franchise two films earlier than she did.
