10 Sequel Villains Who Were Weaker Than The First Baddie

8. Doctor Octopus (Spider-Man 2)

doctor-octopusVillain from the previous movie: Green Goblin (Spider-Man). This is certainly the most debatable on the list, because I do think Alfred Molina did a great job as Doc Oc. But my rationale for this entry is fourfold and I feel the need to lay it out clearly: Once Spider-Man's classic villain has been used up (Green Goblin), it's all downhill from there, no matter which villain you use. Doctor Octopus was literally physically weaker (in terms of his own body at least, not the tentacles). The Green Goblin had augmented physical strength and was fully armoured, making him more durable in combat. Doctor Octopus has no long ranged attacks or flying abilities so, despite the fact that he is quite agile and manoeuvrable thanks to his tentacles, he's not as agile or as manoeuvrable as the Green Goblin and can't attack from as big a distance. Green Goblin had more resources at his disposal by virtue of being the CEO of Oscorp (at least to begin with) and being able to build and produce his own costume/bombs/serum voluntarily. In a nutshell, you can't beat the Green Goblin as far as Spider-Man villain goes and, although Doctor Octopus was pretty cool, following on from Willem Dafoe's classic depiction of the maniacal flying threat was a tough break.
