10 Sequels That Completely Ignored The Previous Film

10. The Legend Of Conan

Sequel to: Conan the Barbarian But not: Conan the Destroyer Here's where it gets extra confusing: The recent announcement of a new film in the Conan series, The Legend of Conan, had producer Chris Morgan stating it will "bypass" both Conan the Destroyer and the 2011 version of Conan the Barbarian. That a complete reboot three years ago of Conan the Barbarian starring Khal Drogo himself, Jason Momoa, was a major flop just goes to show that audiences really only want to see Austrian Oak Arnold Schwarzenegger bringing his own brand of Teutonic woodenness to the role, so people better forget the new film ever happened. Further difficulties are raised by Red Sonja. The film shares Conan's Hyborian setting as well as the same producers and Destroyer director Richard Fleischer, while Schwarzenegger plays the Conan-in-all-but-name Kalidor. Whether it actually counts as part of a canon with any Conan film, though, is pretty debateable. So which should I watch? Given filming on The Legend of Conan is unlikely to start until after Arnie returns to his bigger franchise role with Terminator: Genisys next year, you may have to wait a year or two to see it and there's every possibility that it may yet never materialise at all. So, stick with the Barbarian-Destroyer pair for now.
