10 Sequels That Completely Ignored The Previous Film

9. American Reunion

Sequel to: American Pie; American Pie 2; American Wedding But not: American Pie Presents: Band Camp; American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile; American Pie Presents: Beta House; American Pie Presents: The Book of Love Here's where it gets extra confusing: Only linked to the cinematic series by the continued presence of Eugene Levy, slightly implausibly still hanging around as Jim's dad, the American Pie Presents... films are in themselves only really thematic rather than narrative sequels. Only parts 2 and 3, The Naked Mile and Beta House, share narrative continuity or lead characters, although each includes a member of the Stifler family, none of whom get much mention in the reunion. The reasonable commercial returns for American Reunion have meant that a sequel has been announced. At the moment the working title is American Pie 5, suggesting that the studio are not all that keen on allowing the American Pie Presents... films into the proper canon. So which should I watch? Both sets of sequels largely trade off nostalgia for the original, while the Presents... series rehashes the same thing over and over with slightly different settings and casts. The cinema releases at least attempt to dramatise, which is slightly pathetic for its ageing cast to try and repeat the same things again and again, making it probably the better option if you must look for a fourth franchise entry.
