10 Sequels That Completely Ignored The Previous Film

8. Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III

Sequel to: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre But not: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 Here's where it gets extra confusing: Leatherface was followed by 1994's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation, which manages to be a skeleton in the closet of two future Oscar winning stars: Renee Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey. Sort of both remake and sequel to the original film, it refers to the previous two sequels in its prologue as "two minor, yet apparently related incidents", but its plot does not follow them at all. Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, released in 2006, is a prequel to the 2003 remake and so bears no relation to any of the original four films, while Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3-D ignores the reboot and the other instalments to provide a more direct follow on to the 1974 original than any other sequel. It has been reported that 3-D will be followed up by a new prequel unrelated to The Beginning. So which should I watch? Definitely a case of diminishing returns, each of the many attempts to reboot this franchise gets worse than the last one. So, stick with the first film and, if you must go for a sequel, watch the first sequel.
