10 Sequels That Completely Ignored The Previous Film

4. Jaws: The Revenge

Sequel to: Jaws; Jaws 2 But not: Jaws 3-D Here's where it gets extra confusing: The original Jaws was enough of a hit that it inspired knock-offs that tried to represent themselves as official follow-ups, most notably Italian production Great White, which was sued for plagiarism by Universal and pulled from US cinemas, but still made a tidy profit worldwide. Meanwhile, 1995 direct-to-video feature Cruel Jaws was released in some regions as Jaws 5 and reused footage from Spielberg's original. Despite Back to the Future's promise of a Max Spielberg directed Jaws 19, a real fifth instalment has yet to materialise. So which should I watch? Steer well clear of both 3 and 4, both of which have a kind of "so bad it's good" quality, but are mostly "so bad it's bad". In retrospect and in comparison with the two later films, however, Jaws 2 starts to look pretty decent.
