10 Sequels That Completely Ignored The Previous Film
5. Highlander III: The Sorcerer
Sequel to: Highlander But not: Highlander II: The Quickening Here's where it gets extra confusing: In between films two and three a Canadian-French TV series was also produced, which ignored the story from either sequel film and instead followed on from the original movie (only also ignoring the end so there were still plenty of immortals around, including new lead Duncan McCleod, an immortal conveniently from the same clan as the original film's Connor). The series ran for six seasons from 1992 to 1997, along with a short lived and largely pointless spin-off Highlander: The Raven and a slightly longer running and only tangentially related Highlander: The Animated Series. Fourth film feature Highlander: Endgame attempted to fold the TV and movie continuities together (albeit still ignoring The Quickening) by pairing Christopher Lambert's Connor and Adrian Paul's Duncan. It was a flop, but didn't stop 2007 Sci-Fi Channel TV movie Highlander: The Source, which continued the story with just Duncan and another retcon for the original mythology. Futuristic anime Highlander: The Search for Vengeance shared a writer with the TV series but little continuity. So which should I watch? The Quickening, with its alien origin story, is probably the worst, dumbest sequel of the bunch, but none of them are all that great even when compared with the profoundly silly original. The TV series (without spin-offs and film adaptations) is probably the best place to go if you want to continue the Highlander story.
