10 Sequels That Were Nothing Like The First Movie

5. Book Of Shadows: Blair Witch 2

Batman And Robin
Artisan Entertainment

The Original:

An absolute game-changer that both popularized the found footage sub-genre and made use of the internet's potential as a marketing tool, The Blair Witch Project is still one of the most successful independent movies ever made, earning almost $250m on a budget of just $60,000.

The Sequel:

The Blair Witch Project was hardly a movie crying out for a follow-up but it got one anyway, purely for financial reasons you would expect. Discarding everything that made the first movie so memorable, Book of Shadows ended up as just another forgettable low-budget genre flick.

The connections to the original were tenuous at best, and the entirely-scripted psychological horror offered little in the way of new ideas, instead deciding to piggyback off the success of its groundbreaking predecessor. Despite featuring trained actors the performances were somehow even worse, and by casually slapping the 'Blair Witch' moniker on the title it couldn't have been more obvious that Book of Shadows was nothing more than a cynical cash-grab.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
