10 Sequels That Were Nothing Like The First Movie
3. Die Hard 4.0
The Original:
Perhaps the greatest action movie ever made, Die Hard signaled a shift away from the musclebound action heroes of the 1980's towards characters that audiences could actually relate to, as John McClane overcame the odds to save the day at Nakatomi Plaza.
The Sequel:
Die Hard 4.0 isn't awful, but it does forget everything that made Die Hard such a success. John McClane was an ordinary guy trapped in extraordinary circumstances, who used his wits and a sh*tload of luck to save the day, picking up more than a few injuries along the way.
In Len Wiseman's fourth installment, he's basically the Terminator. No longer the everyman hero that we used to root for, McClane is now an indestructible killing machine that can take down a fighter jet with his bare hands and casually guns down reams of faceless henchmen, and is now capable of surviving enough gunfights and explosions that Chuck Norris himself would be jealous.
Which is the polar opposite of what the character is supposed to be, but that didn't really seem to matter to the filmmakers. Its a blockbuster sequel; bigger is always better.
